There are many types of workwear that are visible and some that are not so visible. This article will hopefully try to sum most of them up.
Whether you work from home or in an environment with others, you will no doubt at some stage have to dress appropriately for the task in hand. Many home-workers at some stage may need to meet with their employer, whilst everyone else is constantly being “eyed” by their employer. It is this latter category that demands the necessity of dressing accordingly.
Some jobs require by law that certain standards are followed. This not only applies in those industries where safety is of utmost importance (industrial workwear / safetywear applications) but also where respect must be gained, with the police for example.
But it is also about image. Take for example, a young guy who is expert in his field but dresses sloppily, has long unkempt hair and wears jeans and a t-shirt. No-one would have much respect for someone who presented himself like that – he would have to earn it. Richard Branson is always seen in an open-neck shirt and jeans, but because he has climbed the ladder to success and has earned the recognition he deserves, we respect him for who he is.
A final thought here is that in workplaces where workwear clothing is provided, the employee is spared the daily chore of deciding what to wear. Bank staff and shop assistants may be provided a months worth of uniforms to wear. They probably will have to pay the cleaning bill – but hey, you can’t have everything!!
